Nutrition Month 2017

The month of March is dedicated to educating and increasing awareness of nutrition and how important food is to your body. This year, the theme of Nutrition Month was “Take the Fight Out of Food”.

Here are some of the ways Vision participated in Nutrition Month this year:

  • Meigan Simpson, Registered Dietitian, gave a presentation at the Wellness Centre in Gaspé
    • This included an introduction to what is meant by “Take the Fight Out of Food” and its three tenets:
      • Spot the Problem
      • Get the Facts
      • Get Support
    • Meigan spoke about what it means to have a healthy relationship with food
    • More can be learned about this on the Dietitians of Canada website
  • Meigan Simpson and Amie Chicoine gave a presentation and workshop at the Gaspé Polyvalente for all high school students
    • The workshop was given during lunch hour and approximately 30 students came to check it out
    • While there, they got to sample homemade energy balls and hummus
    • Two gift baskets of healthy foods were given as prizes

  • The March edition of the Bulletin for Health and Wellbeing featured a piece about Irritable Bowel Syndrome, including an introduction to the low FODMAP diet.

  • Finally, we introduced educational posts and healthy recipes on our Facebook page, using inspiration from the Cookspiration website (run by the Dietitians of Canada)

Great nutrition doesn’t end on April 1st! Keep these resources in mind as you move forward into the spring and summer.
