Vision has been putting together a number of resources to benefit caregivers. We recognize that many seniors are in a position of giving care to a loved one and that it may be difficult to take care of yourself in the midst of taking care of someone else.

Here, you will find useful information about what is available to you and upcoming events that can help you cope.

Vision’s Caregiver Kit is available at the office free of charge. Below, you will find a link to download an electronic copy of our Caregiver’s Guide, simply click on the picture to download it.

Further, there are a number of events occurring at different times of the year and in different places through Vision’s Second Souffle project, which occurs in French and English in both Gaspé and Percé. Second Souffle is conducted in partnership with APPUI, CHSSN, and the MRC du Rocher-Percé.

“Self-Care for Caregivers” is one piece of the project. It is a series of five workshops with Dr. Megan McCallum, Psychologist. “Self-Care for Caregivers” has run in Gaspé and is currently being offered in Barachois (Fall 2016). The themes of this series of workshops include:

  • How to be a caregiver AND care for yourself
  • Think about thinking = Let’s get in your head!
  • Emotions: What they are trying to tell you and what to do about it
  • Mind-body interactions: Healthy body, Happy mind
  • The power of connecting: Communication tips

In the MRC du Rocher-Percé, a number of workshops took place in 2015-2016, with very positive results. This part of the project was called “My Tool Box” and it consisted of two series of six workshops with Dr. Karène Larocque, Psychologist. The themes included:

  • Assist without Burning Out, to prevent exhaustion
  • Emotions: Enemies or Allies
  • Mea Culpa to End the Guilt
  • Stress – Get Out Alive and Healthy
  • Letting Go – of what and especially how
  • Taking Care of Myself

Vision will shortly be producing a copy of our Caregiver Booklet in French for the MRC du Rocher-Percé. Once launched, it will be here.

Please keep an eye out for all upcoming caregiver activities!

The Caregiver Network has wonderful resources on a variety of topics. Please check our Facebook page and our calendar for continual updates on interesting information or video-conferences published on their website.
